Hi, just came across this blog about the Irish in the American Civil War. I’m interested because my great-grandfather, Jeremiah C.Sullivan ( born in County Kerry -03/16/1841) was a union soldier 69th Fighting Irish NY , company F. He served from February 1865 to June 1865 and was wounded at Hatches Run , Petersburg, Virginia on April 2, 1865.

Is it possible that you or someone out there knows of any photos of the companies in the Irish Brigade ? Or perhaps photos of individual 69th Regiment soldiers.?
I’ve seen photos of Union soldiers including the Fighting 69th , just hanging out in camp but I was wondering if there are more out there.

I love the work u r doing and plan on buying your most recent book.

      Hi Margaret,

Many thanks for the comment. Have you got his pension file? He almost certainly received a pension and you can order them off NARA for a relatively small fee. There are very few group photographs of the 69th New York- I only know of group shots of officers from 1865. Readers may be able to help out as well though. Glad you are enjoying the blog, and if you do get the book let me know what you think!

      Kind Regards,

      Damian.
