Many of you will be familiar with the Civil War Monitor, one of the leading magazines focusing on the American Civil War. In each issue they run a two-page infographic feature entitled “Figures”. For their Summer 2020 edition I teamed up with the Monitor’s graphics team to explore the widows and dependents of Civil War soldiers and sailors in Europe. The result, The Civil War’s Long Reach, focuses on work I have been carrying out as part of the site’s Widows in the Atlantic World Project and seeks to tell something of their story in a visual way. Those of you interested in finding out more can check out the issue in hardcopy, or head over to the Monitor’s website by clicking on the image below.
