Hi. Edward Breen, PA, d. Jun 3 1864, headstone in Cold Harbor Nat. Cem. I maintain cemetery records for St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Manayunk, Philadelphia, PA and I have this same Edward Breen, Co. A, 98th PA Inf. buried in our cemetery with a military headstone.
I can’t figure it out. Was he reinterred? Obviously the headstone was provided after 1879. Your thoughts?
Wow that is really interesting! I know there was a tendency to memorialise men with headstones in their home areas even if they weren’t buried there (or at least mention them on family plots) but that wouldn’t apply with a military headstone. Definitely worthy of further investigation, maybe through the headstone records. It is the first time I have come across this occurring.
