      Hi Richard,

According to the soldiers and sailors system there were two Leddy’s in the 10th Ohio, one Philip and one Thomas (is it possible James was not his first name, but people called him that?). Philip is recorded as having served in Company’s I and H and Thomas in Company H. They may have been related, or for some reason James was not listed here. The other place I looked is in the Official Roster of the Soldiers of the State of Ohio in the War of Rebellion, the 10th Ohio are covered in Volume 2 which you can find here http://www.archive.org/stream/officialrosters02commgoog#page/n367/mode/2up and again makes reference to Philip and Thomas, but not James. In the rolls their name is spelt ‘Liddy’. Both men mustered out after three years service in June 1864. I hope this is of some help but if there is anything else I can help you with please give me a shout!

      Kind Regards,

      Damian.

      Hi Patrick,

He was in receipt of a pension alright, Cert 1,002,700 and his widow received one after his death Cert 557,465. He served in three Companys of the 10th Ohio (at least one of the ranks he held was Quartermaster-Sergeant), and was a Major in the 193rd Ohio Infantry. His pension file should have a large amount of further detail on him from the National Archives. If I can be of any further help please let me know, and let us know how you get on!

      Kind Regards,

      Damian.

I am looking for the Grave of PVT Louis Schuch ( Schuck, Shuck,) from 10th Ohio Infantry Co D killed at the Battle of Carnifex Ferry Sept 10th 1861. I have checked the Ancestry.com, Find a Grave and the Federal VA grave site websites and his pension and service records with no success. He is listed on the list of the dead from the Regimental field hospital. His brother George was in the same unit so I assume his body was identified. The State Park office at Carnifex Ferry said there were graves there at one time but they were relocated to Grafton W.VA around 1900 but the website for the cemetery does not list him. If anyone has any ideas where to look next or where others killed at that same battle are buried I would appreciate hearing from you. Thanks.

      Hi Keith,

I had a look at the widow’s pension which his mother Elizabeth received but no information there either. Hopefully one of the readers might be able to offer some assistance.

      Kind Regards,

      Damian.
